The racing world has lost a big one. A man who’s driving talent and off-track antics made the IRL a more enjoyable series. More importantly a guy who lived with passion, for his sport and for his family.
I never had the opportunity to meet Dan, but after seeing him wearing shirt’s in the paddock that read “actually won the Indy 500”, and, “Danica who?”, I can only imagine how cool he was. It is heartbreaking to see someone so young die, and my heart goes out to his family.
RIP Dan
I live in the Tampa / St Petersburg area and can tell you we will miss Dan. I had the opportunity to briefly see him at the 2009 St. Pete Grand Prix. I was able to get a few photos of him as he was on his way to the pits for practice.
He was a great driver, a great husband, and just a great guy. We will miss him.

Hi Blair,
You are correct. Dan’s passing is a greater loss than just his talent as a driver. IndyCar (no longer IRL) and all of motorsports are grieving.
Glad I got to see him race and win both his 500s.
